KTA Board Bios

Clyde C. Robertson, Ph.D.

Founding Member — President 2005-2007
Dr. Robertson is the Director of the New Orleans Public Schools Africana Studies & Multicultural Unit. An invited participant at a number of international, national and local conferences, including the Cheikh Anta Diop conference of Africana Studies at Temple University, his alma mater, Dr. Robertson continues to publish works on Africana Studies as a discipline. He served as teacher chaperone for KTA98 and KTA2K.

LaVerne R. Price, B. S.

Secretary
Mrs. Price ia an educator with almost 30 years of experience teaching Health and Physical Education in the New Orleans Public Schools. She trains teachers on new curriculum in the area of HIV/AIDS edcucation with the New Orleans Public School system as adopted from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Parent of KTA97 scholar, Erin, Mrs. Price served as a teacher chaperone for KTA98, KTA2K, and KTA02.

Cassandra J. Murphy, Ph.D.

Founding Member — Treasurer
Dr. Murphy has served as Program Director for six groups of U. S. Dept. of Education Fulbright-Hays, Group Projects Abroad. An invited participant to the American Forum for Global Education in 1990, she currently is Director of Service Learning at Xavier University. Her areas of specialty are educational technology, program development and grantwriting. Dr. Murphy has served as a teacher chaperone for KTA99.

Debra Harley, M. Ed.

Founding Member — Executive Director
Mrs. Harley has almost 20 years of classroom experience and has traveled throughout Africa. She was a U. S. Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya and 1995 Fulbright Scholar to Zimbabwe. She has seved as an educational consultant, trainer and presenter for Louisiana Voices-Folklife in Education Program. Currently a Montessori teacher in the public school system she has also worked in curriculum development, teacher training, and portfolio assessment. She serves as a teacher chaperone each year.

Reginald Harley, B. S.

Founding Member
Mr. Harley was a U. S. Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroun. He is currently employed as a Loan Specialist with the U. S. Small Business Administration. He has extensive experience in Community Development and Consensus Organizing. Mr. Harley served a teacher chaperone for KTA97, KTA99 and KTA02.

Rev. Dwight Webster

Founding Member — Community Liaison
Rev. Webster is the senior pastor of Christian Unity Baptist Church. Rev. Webster is a practitioner and academic in the field of Africana (African and African American) Stuidies with over 25 years experience in research; teaching; program evaluation; lecturing and consulting. Rev. Webster has served as a teacher chaperone for KTA99, and KTA02.
